Sunday night’s 83rd Annual Academy Awards were full of gorgeous gowns, beautiful updos, and smooth strands. A popular look that swept the red carpet was 60′s inspired hair do’s as shown on Actresses Nicole Kidman, Sharon Stone, Michelle Williams, and Reese Witherspoon (right).

My favorite two looks of the night were from Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, who both worked retro ponytails with plenty of volume at the crown.

Kidman was channeling French model, Brigitte Bardot with her playful ponytail.  This subtle look was achieved by teasing the crown for volume.  I suggest using a volumizer to attain this look in order to avoid causing any unnecessary damage to your hair.

Witherspoon also flaunted a ponytail that was attained by using extensions.  I suggest using a hairpiece like the Sleek Length Stretch-a-Comb Hairpiece instead of extensions to get a long, sleek look.

Who do you think had the best hair on yesterday’s red carpet?

Instant Style with Dancing with the Stars

It’s finally that time of year again! The Dancing with the Stars casting rumor mill has begun.  It has been speculated that former NFL quarterback, Brett Favre, Full House actress, Candace Cameron, and even Reverend Al Sharpton may join the season 12 cast.  Who do you hope will grace the dance floor this year?

Personally, I can’t wait to see the beautiful dancing ensembles and stylish hairpieces.  Last year Bristol Palin wore the Starlight Extensions, while Jennifer Grey wore Glamarama during her tango.  The Glamarama hairpiece was recently reviewed by The Beauty Lady.  You can read her full review of the product here.

Be sure to check out the full Dancing with the Stars line and tune into ABC on Monday, March 12  for the 2 hour season premiere!

Spread the Love

Last October, we held our own breast cancer awareness (BCA) campaign.  We encouraged you, our readers to share your breast cancer stories (read our “‘Think Pink’ Recap” here).  We received over one hundred amazing entries and I was particularly inspired by one of four winners, Carol.

Carol and the other three lucky winners were the recipients of custom wig kits.  When I contacted Carol for her to select the styles she’d like to receive, she wasn’t picky.  She said that she would be holding her “Think Pink” party at the local BCA Support Group meeting and donated the wigs to members of the support group as well as a wig bank.

Carol was kind enough to send us pictures of her “best support group meeting EVER!!!”

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, what better way to spread the love than to donate!

Human Hair vs. Synthetic Wigs

Milan Human Hair Wig

Human hair styles are currently available in our Clearance Department for their lowest prices ever! That’s right, ever…styles like Milan are only $69 making this a great time for you to experiment with a new fiber.  After reading countless inquiries on this blog and on our Facebook page regarding the differences between human hair and synthetic wigs, we’ve decided to help clear the air with a high level overview of the two fibers.

Let’s start with synthetic wigs first:

Synthetic wigs are extremely easy to wear and care for. These styles tend to be lighter and most stylists recommend synthetic wigs because they require the least amount of care. Shorter synthetic wigs are considered “shake-n-go,” meaning that all you do is shake them out and they look great. Longer styles may simply need to be combed or finger-styled, but also require less maintenance.  One thing that’s important to remember is that you should never use heat on a synthetic wig! Any heat source, such as a blow dryer, curling or straightening iron — even an open oven — will damage the fiber and ruin the wig.

Human Hair Wigs:

These versatile wigs can be treated just like your own hair.  They can be curled and styled in any number of ways.  Human hair wigs tend to be a bit heavier and thicker in comparison to synthetic wigs.  Human hair wigs are not “shake-n-go” styles.  They only hold a style as long as your own hair would, which means they require more effort than synthetic wigs. Human hair wigs are a good idea if you are skilled at styling your own hair and don’t mind doing it every day.

If you’re looking for the best of both worlds,  try our heat-resistant VersaFiber Wig.  This curlable fiber allows you to wear it sleek and straight one day and curly the next – giving you the freedom to change your look every day.

Jane Lynch: Style Finder

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a TV junkie (catch up on my TV confessions here) whose addiction has led to many hours of procrastination.  To help ease my mind from guilt, I like to tie in what I watch to my work – bringing you fresh ideas for gorgeous hairstyles.

Jane LynchThis past week, I found my inspiration on the The People’s Choice Awards – more specifically the winner of  Favorite TV Comedy Actress, Jane Lynch.  Lynch turns a simple short look into everyday chic.  Although Sue Sylvester, her character in Glee, confessed her insecurity with her hair in The Power of Madonna, Jane is no stranger to the short do’.

If you’re looking for a similar short style, we recommend:

Carrie Ann – Carrie Ann is a short style with layered waves.

Vikki- Vikki is more of a pixie cut (less length in the back) with a slightly sassy edge to it.  This sassy edge screams Sue Sylvester!

Tell us, what do you think of Jane’s look?

College Football Star Giving Back

Over the holiday break our family discussed a lot of football – everything from game predications to playoff predictions.  I  don’t usually care for sports, but I decided to sit down and watch a few games with my husband and children to keep the peace.

Monday night was no exception with the Orange Bowl (an annual college football bowl game) against Stanford University and Virginia Tech.  I couldn’t help but notice Owen Marecic, a football player for Stanford University.  What made this athlete really standout from the pack (outside of his talent), was his long hair.  Apparently this is a growing trend for athletes (example: Pittsburgh Steeler safety, Troy Polamalu), but when I found out the story behind the hair I became an even bigger fan.

With the passing of his grandmother to cancer, Owen wanted to contribute something to the cause and will be donating his blonde locks to a charity specifically aimed to benefit cancer patients.

Owen isn’t just a star athlete, he maintains a 3.8 GPA all while playing two positions as fullback on offense and middle linebacker on defense.

I think Stanford Professor and former Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice said it best, “He’s a real inspiration for a lot of people.”
